One building, two personalities
The City Hall is a bit of a split personality. One side is flamboyant late-Gothic, all spires and confidence; the other is calm Renaissance, as if the city hired a different architect and just never told the first one. Look closely and the stone carvings are worth the detour — saints, scenes and the odd warning about pride. Ghent has been governing itself here for centuries, loudly and with considerable style.
