Prinsenhof
Prinsenhof

The Prinsenhof was the princely court of Ghent, a residence grand enough for counts and dukes. In 1500 it welcomed a baby who would become Charles V, ruler of an empire on which the sun supposedly never set. The court is mostly gone now, its buildings dissolved into the modern street plan. Stand here and you're standing in what was once the nursery of European politics. Not bad for a quiet corner near the castle.
