Rococo with hand-forged muscle

Hotel Falligan was built in 1755 and is textbook Rococo: curving ornament, stylised consoles, ornate blazons and columns that pose rather than support. Look up at the balconies — those were hand-forged, each one a blacksmith's flex. This was a townhouse designed to be admired from the street, and it still is. Ghent's wealthy merchants liked their architecture loud and their ironwork louder, and this building delivers both.
