The Handelsbeurs — the old trade exchange — is where merchants met to do business, and a building like this tells you exactly how seriously Ghent took commerce. Trades, prices and reputations were all made under these roofs. It grew into one of the city's grandest venues and still stages events today, which feels right: it's always been a place where people come together and something gets agreed.
