The bishop's neo-Gothic seat

The Bisschoppelijk Paleis is the administrative seat of the Diocese of Ghent and the bishop's residence, built in 1845 in sturdy neo-Gothic style. Protected as a monument, it is a reminder that the church governed as much as it prayed — lands, schools, charities and politics all ran through buildings like this. The pointed windows and serious stone make the institution look exactly as important as it once was.
