The church with the tower that never came

Sint-Annakerk was designed by Lodewijk Roelandt and built in 1853 in the Rundbogenstil — a round-arch style mixing Romanesque, Byzantine and Gothic ideas. A tall tower was planned for the west side. It was never built, which is why the church looks subtly unfinished, like a sentence that stops early. Still, the rounded arches and warm brick give it a charm the grander churches often lack. Some buildings wear their missing parts well.
